Our Beekeeping journey started off in 2014, Daniel (my husband) wanted to get bees for pollination of our vegetable garden. I was hesitant, my Grandfather had bees when I was a young girl (cranky bees) and I had taken my trike up to the hive and peered in resulting in a whole lot of cranky bees chasing me and I had too many stings to count, even in my ears and all through my hair, I blew up like a balloon and had a bad reaction to bees for a number of years. So I told my husband he would be the one looking after the bees if we were getting them. We were lucky to have a bee mentor who had been beekeeping for many years who taught us so much about bees, I become more and more interested and soon couldn’t get enough information about the bees. My husband came down with a severe case appendicitis and the bees needed to be robbed, so I stepped up and took care of them. From then on I took more of a roll in beekeeping and before I knew it I was keen to make this my career and expand our hives.
Expanding our beehives so quickly certainly has had many ups and downs and I’m sure this will continue as the years come and go.
